Charming Crochet Unicorn Amigurumi Tips and Tricks

 

Creating a variety of amigurumi figures can be a fun and rewarding experience. and giraffes. The possibilities are endless, including charming pigs, birds, and even penguins.

If you’re feeling adventurous, consider making a playful panda, llama, or bunny. For those who enjoy whimsical characters, clowns and elephants can add a unique touch to your collection. You can even tackle hippos and monkeys, which can be just as delightful to create.

Don’t be intimidated by the variety; with a little practice, you’ll find that making these cute creations is not difficult at all. As you work through the patterns, you’ll develop your techniques and confidence, transforming simple yarn into beloved stuffed animals and characters.

Materials Needed for Amigurumi Unicorn

To create your adorable amigurumi unicorn, you’ll need a variety of materials. Gather yarn in two colors (designate them as color 1 and color 2). Additional supplies include stitch markers, pins, polyester fiber for stuffing, scissors, a tapestry needle, and embroidery floss.

 

Abbreviations to Know

  • inc: increase
  • dec: invisible decrease
  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • mr: magic ring
  • The numbers in parentheses indicate the total number of stitches at the end of each round.

Amigurumi Unicorn Crochet Pattern

Size: With the materials I used, my unicorn measures approximately 7.5 inches (20 cm) from horn to foot.

Notes: Always crochet in rounds, using a stitch marker to mark the end of each round.

Horn

  1. Using color 2, make a magic ring and crochet 6 single crochets (sc) into it (6).
  2. Continue with sc around (6).
  3. [2 sc, 1 inc] twice (8).
  4. Sc around (8).
  5. [3 sc, 1 inc] twice (10).
  6. Sc around (10).
  7. [4 sc, 1 inc] twice (12).
  8. Sc around (12) for two more rounds.
  9. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing, and stuff lightly with polyester fiber.

Ears (Make Two)

  1. Using color 1, make a magic ring and crochet 5 sc into it (5).
  2. Sc around (5).
  3. 5 inc (10).
  4. Sc around for five additional rounds (10).
  5. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Arms (Make Two)

  1. Using color 1, create a magic ring with 6 sc (6).
  2. [1 sc, 1 inc] three times (9).
  3. Sc around for 9 rounds (9).
  4. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff.

Legs and Body (Make Two)

  1. Start with color 2, making a magic ring with 6 sc (6).
  2. [1 sc, 1 inc] three times (9).
  3. [2 sc, 1 inc] three times (12).
  4. Sc around for two rounds (12).
  5. Switch to color 1 and sc around for four more rounds (12).
  6. For the first leg, fasten off, leaving a long tail.  Chain 6 and join the two legs with a single crochet in the first leg.
  7. Continue with 12 sc on the first leg, 6 sc along the chain, 12 sc on the second leg, and 6 sc along the other side of the chain (36).
  8. Close the small hole between the legs with the tail from the first leg, making a few stitches with a tapestry needle. Stuff the legs.

Head

  1. Using color 1, make a magic ring with 6 sc (6).
  2. Continue to increase as per the instructions for rounds 2 through 7.
  3. Join the head to the body and secure with the tail left from the body. Continue stuffing and completing the head shape as outlined.

Assembly and Final Touches

To complete your unicorn, sew the horn to the top of the head and attach the ears, arms, and any embellishments like a mane or tail. For extra charm, embroider the eyes and add blush to the cheeks.
